In Canada, provincial governments are responsible for administering health care and drug benefit programs. Drug benfit programs determine the extent of drug coverage with respect to payments, eligibility, and drug inclusion criteria.

Since each provincial program operates independently from the other porgrams, there is considerable variation across Canada with respect to drug coverage.
