Manitoba Pharmacare
December 11, 2001
Manitoba Pharmacare is a universal voluntary enrolment drug benefit program for any Manitoban, regardless of age. The annual deductible is equal to 2% of the first $15,000
[i.e. $300] of adjusted family income and 3% thereafter. For instance a family with an adjusted income of $60,000 would have a deductible of $1,650.00.
There is a minimum deductible of $100.00. Once a family is enrolled and until their deductible has been met, Pharmacare merely tracks their drug expenses and the family must pay their drug expenses out of their own resources or submit these costs to their private drug plan. Once the family's drug expenses exceed the deductible, Pharmacare will pay for 100% of the family's remaining costs.
The Manitoba provincial government does not have a drug plan specifically intended for seniors but they do have a separate program for family services and housing support, that pays for 100% of the drug cost of eligible recipients.
Prior to 2000, the data provided by Pharmacare to Brogan Inc. did not distinguish between amounts paid by Pharamacare's beneficiaries and amounts actually paid by Pharmacare. Commencing with the 2000 calendar year, Manitoba Pharmacare has been identifying for Brogan Inc. the financial amounts paid and unpaid by the drug plan.
For your information we have compiled the following information detailing the total costs processed by Manitoba Pharmacare, and the amounts actually paid by Pharmacare by select leading drug classes.
For a nominal fee, PharmaStat clients who are interested in knowing what share of other drug category
costs are paid by Manitoba Pharmacare may request a custom tabulation from Brogan Inc.
