The Board has accepted a VCU in the Strattera case. Strattera is the third ADHD drug for which a hearing was called. In the only ADHD published decision, on Adderall XR, the non-excessive prices were determined based on the the mid-point of the domestic therapeutic class comparison (vs 'old' stimulants) and the international median, in recognition of the moderate improvement offered by the medicine.
The Strattera VCU is based on the same methodology as approved in the Adderall XR case (midpoint between MIPC and TCC vs 'old' stimulants). Strattera appears to have been granted a price higher than a direct comparison versus Adderall XR or Concerta would have allowed.
The repayment associated with this VCU is $15.3million for the period from 2005 to 2008.
