Impact of the "Weather Bomb" on prescription drug sales in Eastern Canada

On the Thursday February 19, 2004, Maritime provinces experienced what was referred to as a "Weather Bomb". Heavy snow and high winds created treacherous driving conditions and movement of people throughout the three Maritime provinces came to a halt. The impact of the "Weather Bomb" on sales of prescription drug sales could be immediately sensed through Brogan Inc.'s data warehouse. As depicted below, the sales volumes on the day of the storm fell by approximately 50% compared to a normal day.

Brogan Inc. has the largest prescription claims database in Canada and collects data on over 65% of all privately paid prescriptions on a daily basis. Even slight changes in prescription flow resulting from weather conditions, Physician prescribing habits, stock shortages, or product entries among other events can be investigated and studied by Brogan analysts.
